COUNT YOUR BLESSINGS
When I'm worried and I can't sleep
I count my blessings instead of sheep...
-Irving Berlin from the 1954 film White Christmas
The song "Count Your Blessings," written by Irving Berlin and performed so wonderfully by Bing Crosby in White Christmas, offers a solution to combat the sleeplessness that arises from worry and fear, you need only to "count your blessings, instead of sheep."
The Bible suggests that perhaps Bing's smoothly sung lyrics aren't too far off. In Matthew 6:25- 34, Jesus instructs those He is teaching to "consider the birds of the air...and...the lilies of the field." If the Lord provides for them so abundantly, how much more will He provide for you!
Therefore, when you're feeling discouraged, count your blessings - and the blessings of those around you - and remember that the Lord will provide all that we need to fulfill His will. Remembering these things is a sure way to help you rest easy.
Oh give thanks to the LORD, for He is good; for His steadfast love endures forever! (Psalm 118:29)
